St Ives Blue Moroccan Ocean Mandalas

I started these patterns from an abstract watercolour of the sea hitting the sand. The blue is a St Ives blue, the most vibrant of English blues.
The turquoise waters and sands and are one of our island's most breath- taking gifts from nature. It inspired this collection of 3, a paisley, a mandala, and a Moroccan influenced design.

Moroccan tile patterns are so much fun to make, the orderly repeated structure, helps contain a more chaotic pattern but the overall effect is peaceful.

St Ives Blue Ocean Mandala Pattern with Mermaid’s tails

My mandalas involve a sprinkle of serendipity, by kaleidoscope-ing the original pattern there is an element of randomness, and here from the ocean, some fish and mermaid tails surfaced.

St Ives Blue Paisley Beach Inspired

I started these patterns from an abstract watercolour of the sea hitting the sand. The blue is a St Ives blue, the most vibrant of English blues.
The turquoise waters and soft sands are one of our island's most breath- taking gifts from nature. It inspired this collection of 3, a paisley, a mandala, and a Moroccan influenced design.

I think Paisley lends itself to ocean influenced artwork with the curves reminding me of fish tails, flipping out the water. Or the rising waves of the ocean.

Purple Mandala with Magenta Pink Roses

This has been the first time in a while I've started from a painting rather than a 100% digital process! I forget how fun it is getting messy fingers. I think it also makes the whole design softer. I got same new and pastels so of course the pinks and purples came out the box first! A mixture of violets and magentas.

At the moment this is a series of 2 a Roses Mandala, and a Roses diamond.

Is it cheating to call it a mandala? It started as one then I reflected it through a 90° kaleidoscope. It still has that feel to it, the roses are cleaner on the diamond, but I can still see them here.

I enjoy seeing the natural strokes of the pastels and gouache come through. The roses can be seen subtly on the mandala pattern.

Diamond Pattern with Pink Roses

This has been the first time in a while I have stated from a painting rather than a 100% digital process! I forget how fun it is getting messy fingers. I think it also makes the whole design softer. I got same new and pastels so of course the pinks and purples came out the box first! A mixture of violets and magentas.

At the moment this is a series of 2 a Roses Mandala, and this Roses diamond.

The roses take centre stage on the diamond. Once again original marks from pastel and gouache I used, can be seen. This was also passed through a 90 degrees kaleidoscope. The roses have the vines framing them nicely.
